5 Tips for Being a Successful Personal Finance Blogger

May 28, 2023 By Jessie

Personal finance blogs are among the most profitable topics in the blogosphere. Whether you’re targeting credit counseling, budgeting, couponing, or any other finance topic, you can enjoy high profits if you start your blog right. Here are some tips for creating a strong personal finance blog.

1. Get Experience

People read blogs because they want to learn from an expert, not a peer. If you’re planning on writing a finance blog, gain some experience in the finance world. Try different budgeting apps, take out a personal small loan, investigate interest rates, read up on financial news, and gain other experience in your niche. Once you’ve successfully become an expert in your field, you can share your wisdom with others.

2. Practice Writing

Experience isn’t everything when it comes to being a successful personal finance blogger. You also need a talent for the written word. Being able to write is the key to a successful blog. It doesn’t matter how much knowledge you have if you can’t write. People won’t be able to understand your point if your thoughts are unorganized, or they might get annoyed with bad grammar and spelling.

Being a good writer takes practice. Even those born with a natural talent for writing must do exercises and learn grammar to hone their craft. Do a lot of reading to see good writing in action, and then practice stringing words together and getting your grammar right. You might consider taking a professional writing class to teach you the basics.

3. Subscribe to Finance Blogs

You’re far from the only finance blogger, and if you want to be successful, you’ll keep an eye on what others are writing. Not only will this keep you fresh on current news and trending topics, but it will also help you avoid copying the competition. As a blogger, you need to be fresh and original, which can’t be done if you don’t know what else is out there.

4. Decide on Your Niche

Personal finance is a good start to narrowing your niche, but you need to get even more specific if you want to excel. Choose a topic of personal finance that you have a passion for, be it budgets or mortgages.

If you’re not sure what to write about, look for a hole within the financial blogosphere. Is there a particular topic that’s less talked about than others? When there’s less competition in your niche, you’ll have an easier time attracting an organic audience.

5. Be Unique

Aside from choosing a unique niche, find another way to stand out against the other finance bloggers on the market. You could use a definitive voice or take a new angle on personal finance. Your color scheme, photos, and blog formats can also set you apart.

There are a lot of opportunities for growth in personal finance, but it’s a highly saturated market. If you can’t find a way to be unique, you’ll have a much harder time maintaining a successful blog.
